10 Top Tips for Best Wedding Mehendi

Any Indian wedding is incomplete without mehendi. No matter which part of the country bride belongs to, marriage cannot take place without beautiful mehendi adorning her lovely hands. In the last decade or so, the craze for mehendi has increased so much that even foreigners like to celebrate their weddings by putting mehendi.

Everything about Indian weddings is beautiful. From Wedding Decoration to wedding flowers, everything has its own charm. Weddings are no longer special days for bride and groom only. In fact all the members of family look forward to such events as they give them chance to meet their extended families and enjoy together in a group.

Many beauty parlours identify the need of offering professional services and design special bridal mehendi packs for these days. The brides are given a choice between the Indian mehendi (covers most of the palm up till elbow) and the Arabic mehendi (constitutes of drawing patterns from one side of the hand to the other end). However, in order to get the maximum colour from the henna on hands, here is the list of top 10 tips:

1.Mehendi, when applied on the skin, takes 30-40 minutes to dry off. To enhance the deepness in colour, it should be life of hands and feet for at least 6-7 hours. Taking it out before than that will give a very fade colour of red.

2.Mehendi powder can be of green, khaki or Dark Brown colour. When mixed with water, it usually develops into a dark chocolate colour and gives out a typical smell.

3.For better results, use fresh mehendi powder. Just as the fresh wedding flowers complete wedding decoration and fill the venue with a scented aroma, mehendi made of fresh gives a very pleasant smell and colour.

4.Stale mehendi gives a light orange colour when take off and this colour doesn’t get rich over time.

5.To add fun to their wedding night, many brides like to put names of their grooms in the henna designs on their hands. The groom has to find his name and if he’s unable to do that, the bride is said to be in command of the married life.

6.Peacock, chess, lotus, elephant with a raised trunk, bride and a groom are some of the favourite henna designs. Only a diligent artist can make them appear prominent even within the complexity of the design.

7.The henna colour darkens till the second day of applying it. Using mustard oil gives it a darker tone.

8.While the mehendi on hands is still wet, use of sugar mixed lemon syrup can be used to stick it to the hands for a longer period of time. This is done to darken the colour when it’s taken off.

9.Many artists advice not to use the black henna as it contains a chemical, Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) which is used hair dyes and can cause causes skin irritations or swelling.

10.Brides should also keep in mind to have waxing done before mehendi is applied as otherwise the mehendi will get waxed off with the hair!
